About Me

I’m Ernest Henry Flancia — a music educator and performer passionate about sharing my love for music and percussion to inspire those around me. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to receive various scholarships and awards, including the Kaede Cultural Society of Calgary Award, the Calgary Pro Musica Chamber Music Award, and the F.M. McLeod Prize.

I earned my Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance with Distinction from the University of Calgary in 2024, where I studied under Rod Squance, Tyler Hornby, and Chris Sies, exploring classical, jazz, and contemporary styles. During my time there, I served as both Concertmaster and Principal Percussionist of the University of Calgary’s Wind Ensemble for two years, and I regularly teach percussion clinics for high schools across Alberta, as well as at Mount Royal University.
